One of the nearest hiking destination from Kathmandu is Shivapuri National
Park. It is enlisted in the rank of ninth national park of Nepal. It is located in the country's mid-hill on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu valley. Located at the altitude of 2,732m, it has been a famous tourist destination with a beautiful scenario of Kathmandu valley. It covers an area of 159 km2 spreading in the districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk. Travelling nearly about 32 km from Kathmandu valley, we can reach to our destination and can be explored with variety of natural flora and fauna.
Shivapuri-Nagarjun national park is crucial water catchment area that supplies several hundred thousand cubic liters of water daily to the Kathmandu valley, also called the source of the holy Bagmati River. Several water resources along with water fall and water pond can be seen there with historical importance. The park is located in a transition zone between subtropical and temperate climate. It offers some better option for outdoor refreshment. Mainly Shivapuri is also amazing place for adventurous activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, bird watching and great release of emotion (Waterfall).
There are several travelling destination inside Shivapuri National park, where the traveler should be explored. They are:-
- Budhanilkantha – Shivapuri Peak via the nunnery Nagi Gompa.
- Sundarijal – Chisapani (which is also the start of the Helambu trek).
- Pani Muhan – Kakani via Shivapuri Peak.
- Jamacho Peak in Nagarjun.
